Jamaica has more endemics (31) than any other island in the Caribbean and is an excellent birding location. In all, we have around 300 species that have been recorded here including winter visitors, transients and vagrants.

These migrants can start to arrive in August and will remain here until April/May. For birders from North America, winter is a good opportunity to see migrant species that do not occur in their home territory; whilst for visitors from Europe, the winter season is an ideal time to visit and to catch the mainly North American influx of warblers, wetlands and shore birds.

Many of the species that come to Jamaica at this time add to our own resident populations. In spring, we have a small number of species that migrate or come onshore to breed here: Gray Kingbird. Black-whiskered Vireo, Caribbean Martin, Antillean Night Hawk, Least Tern, White-tailed Tropic Bird.

"We spent seven wonderful days in the company of Wolde, Vaughan, Deceita and Veda. They were always so punctual and so accommodating to our needs and in that time we saw all Jamaica’s endemic birds, as well as several Caribbean endemics. Their birding skills were on a par with anything that we have seen in operation anywhere in the world. Not only were they experts in finding birds by call but their knowledge of the history and culture of Jamaica seemed almost limitless.
"The whole experience of being on their tour was truly outstanding."
